High temperature superconductivity has challenged three major paradigms of condensed matter physics: Band theory of metals, Landau's Fermi liquid theory and the BCS theory of Superconductivity. I will give an overview of our present understanding of some of the key questions with special emphasis on recent insights from projected wave functions and comparisons with experiments.
