Brighton Middle Schoolers Visit Boston College

Students from Brighton’s Edison Middle School held a Mini-Conference at the Department of Physics on December 12th. Organized by volunteer teacher Tony Helies, the students made presentations to a group of faculty and graduate students on projects they carried out over the past few months.  Topics included experimental measurements of the size of the Sun, the Moon and the planet Mercury, and why Pluto was recently ‘demoted’ to dwarf planet status. The enthusiastic young scientists were then given a tour of the physics laboratories.
