BC physicists’ work on superconductivity featured in Nature

December 20, 2007

The scanning tunneling microscopy group led by Asst. Prof. V. Madhavan has recently discovered a collective excitation in n-type high-Tc superconductors that is intimately connected to superconductivity, providing fundamental insights into the possible pairing “glue” between the electrons—a central unresolved issue in condensed matter physics. This work, involving synergetic collaborations among BC graduate students, Francis Niestemski, Shankar Kunwar, Sen Zhou, Asst. Prof. V. Madhavan, Prof. H. Ding, and Prof. Z. Wang, as well as colleagues from the University of Tennessee, has been published in Nature, vol.450, 1058 (2007).
