Department of Physics Researchers Travel to the Annual March Meeting

March 31, 2009

A group of BC Physics faculty, research scientists and graduate students just returned from the annual American Physical Society (APS) March Meeting in Pittsburgh, PA. The March Meeting is by far the biggest event in the physics community, representing the fields of nanoscience, superconductivity, magnetism, spintronics, strongly correlated systems, low-dimensional systems and many more.

The 2009 Meeting was the second largest March Meeting ever. The conference highlights included the good news about the rise in funding for the physics research and teaching. As a result of the intensive efforts of the American Physical Society, President Obama signed into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act that included more than $5.2 billion for basic science funding for DOE Science, NIST and NSF. The Senate passage of FY09 Omnibus Bill received applauds and praise from the APS. It will ensure that scientists continue innovational research, leading to job creation and economic prosperity for the nation.

The BC Physics researchers along with their colleagues from the universities and companies located both in the US and worldwide presented a wide range of research. Both experimental and theoretical data were presented.
