Prof. Ren Professor Zhifeng Ren has been named a Fellow of the American Physical Society, an honor given to APS members who have made advances in knowledge through original research and publication, have been innovative in applying physics to science and technology, or have made significant contributions to the teaching of physics.

His citation reads, "For pioneering contributions to the synthesis of carbon nanotubes and semiconductor nanowire arrays, and high-quality films enabling investigations of d-wave pairing in high-temperature superconductors".

The Physics Department now counts four APS Fellows on its faculty, with Ren joining Professor Michael Naughton, Distinguished Research Professor Gabor Kalman, and Rourke Professor Kevin Bedell. The Chemistry Department claims two, Professor John Fourkas and Professor Paul Davidovits, both elected in the Society’s Chemical Physics Division.
