Graduate Admissions Information

The Physics Department typically admits 8 - 10 students into our program each year. Generally, admission decisions are made during the Spring for entry into our program in the Fall.

Applicants are required to take the GRE Aptitude Test and the Advanced Test in physics. Applicants whose first language is not English must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam.

The graduate applications deadline is January 15th. Consideration of applications begins in February. Students submitting applications before December 31st will be eligible for Early Admission to our graduate program upon written request.

Financial Assistance
Support for qualified students is available in the form of teaching assistantships and tuition remission. Research assistantships are also available during the summer and academic year, depending on research area and the extent of current funding. Boston College often offers minority fellowships to U.S. citizens and permanent residents on a competitive basis. Boston College is also a member of the National Physical Sciences Consortium, which sponsors graduate fellowships for women and minorities.

NOTE: A limited number of Summer Research Fellowships will be awarded to highly qualified applicants.

Application Materials
Download application forms
Application forms may be downloaded as PDF files from the following site for both domestic (US citizens and permanent residents) and international applicants. If you cannot download forms, you can request paper copies by sending an email to either the Department of Physics Graduate Program Director, Prof. R. A. Uritam - Uritam@BC.edu, or by sending an inquiry to the Graduate School at gsasinfo@bc.edu.

NOTE: The Graduate School at Boston College generally will not accept applications without the $70 application fee. However, if you are from a country with a disadvantaged economy and cannot afford this fee, fill out the Pre-Registration Form and then mail your complete application to the Graduate School with a letter requesting a waiver of the application fee.
