Common Facilites

The Electron Microscopy Laboratory is a state-of-the-art facility that provides powerful techniques for characterization of the  microstructure and chemical composition of materials through electron imaging, electron diffraction, energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) from minimeter scale to nanometer or atomic level.

This laboratory is a multi-user, interdisciplinary facility that is open to students, staff and faculty at Boston College, as well as to users and scientific collaborators from other institutions.

Access to the instrument is by arrangement with Professor Zhifeng Ren. For users who are interested in being trained to use the instrument themselves, we offer two continuous courses (Electron Microscopy I---Fundamental Theory, Fall Semester;  Electron Microscopy II---Experimental, Spring Semester) at a graduate level.
